An infamous fly from the ol’ days of the Kreel Tackle company that hosted all of Chuck Kraft’s famous flies we are reviving the spoon minnow. Developed originally by Chuck’s partner the spoon minnow is one of those flies that could be considered a ‘flure’ half lure, half fly. With its lighter weight it casts on a fly rod with ease and allows for some insane movement in the water. This fly is best tied on the following hooks- Gamakatsu B10s size 1 or 1/0 for the large, size 4 for the small. Umpqua X-Series Flats hook XS420 in size 1 or 1/0, Gamakatsu for the large, size 4 for the small. SC15 size 3/0 for the large or size 1 for the small. Tiemco 8089 in size 6 for the large or size 12 for the small, Gamakatsu SL12S size 2/0 for the large, Umpqua X-Series All purpose XS410 in size 3/0 for large or size 4 for small, Mustad Curved Streamer hook in size 1 for large or size 2 or 4 for small, new Fulling mill Streamer stripper in size 1 for large or size 4 for the small tail, or any other like model style stinger hook. They are easy to put together, paint in your favorite color combos, and just a blast to fish. Use a heavy leader in 12-16 pound, a micro swivel to eliminate any possible line twists, and a short 12″ or so tippet. Hang tight as you will be in for some explosive action!
