The new Power SPJ rods from Daiwa are an interesting addition to their line up, they allow for a bit more aggressive bend than the existing Harrier SP and Saltiga SJ rods making them more practical for landing bigger species. They come in three lengths: 6’1″, 6’10” and 8’0″ which is the biggest change to the lineup and unfortunately the longer model is a full 8’0″ so shipping for these will be expensive. The 6’1″ is the practical model, short enough to work jigs in the 500-800g without too much fatigue, the 6’10” is a good in between but it will be hard to use and the 8’0″ is pretty much a sport/party boat exclusive model since the length makes it prohibitively painful to use with larger jigs but that sacrifice is worth having the ability to move around other people and keep your line off of the hull.
Compared to the Saltiga slow pitch rods these models are softer with less recoil leading me to believe they will not jig as effectively in the higher range, the extra bend helping distribute the force throughout more of the blank to give you the pulling power they advertise. Along with that they’ve added a tri-axial carbon weave to the bottom half of the rod to reinforce it in a deep bend.
These models use the Fuji PLS palming reel seat instead of the T-DPS so it’s a bit smaller but more comfortable when fishing especially paired with the extended butt grip shaped to fit your forearm. Daiwa chose the Fuji SiC stainless steel guides including both double and single foot guides for a good balance of sensitivity and durability.
The longer models would work for a long fall style and still be more traditional than other options available in the US since they have less shutoff and a more parabolic bend.

From the Manufacturer: “The Daiwa Saltiga Power Slow Jigging Rods are a game-changer in the realm of deep-water jigging, meticulously crafted for the angler who is serious about fighting and landing big game species. These rods are significantly lighter than their traditional counterparts, allowing for a more effortless and enjoyable jigging experience without sacrificing the strength needed to battle heavy fish. Featuring Daiwa’s 3DX, a three-dimensional cross-wrapped fiber design, these rods offer superior power and resilience.
Moreover, the integration of X45 bias construction reduces rod twisting and increases torque resistance, providing more control during intense fights. The HVF (High Volume Fiber) nanoplus technology utilizes nano resin to bind the carbon fibers, creating a blank that is both lighter and denser, enhancing sensitivity and responsiveness. These rods are engineered to handle the strenuous demands of slow jigging, making them a top choice for anglers seeking both performance and endurance in their tackle.”
