Daiwa has decided to update the Saltiga spinning reel series after only 5 years of the previous generation being out so one might think it’s only an incremental improvement, but they’ve packed in more changes that the last upgrade. The biggest change has come on the larger 18K – 25K sizes and that is the DRD drag system which replaces the conventional carbon fiber drag washer companies have been using for decades with something that has never been tried before, a full metal rolling drag stack. This brings advantages of durability and longevity with less variance at high temps.
Along with that Daiwa has upgrade the oscillation system for the spool, reinforcing it with ball bearings to provide a stable and smooth glide for the locomotion mechanism inside. This should improve how it handles reeling under high load. And if having the largest main gear on the market wasn’t enough for the last gen Saltiga, these new ones have an even bigger main gear and pinion which will reduce wear and make it easier to crank in bigger fish while boasting even more durability. Daiwa has also changed the bail to make it easier to flip under tension and to make sure the line always ends up on the roller which has also been upgrade for braid specific applications.
With this they’ve also created the new 25000 size to get you some extra line capacity without increasing the size of the body, this should be perfect for big tuna and even land based shark fishing.
