This fishing rig is a cost-efficient method of getting your bait down deep. It is an innovative product that combines the usefulness of a planer and the advantage of a release clip at a very affordable price. It allows you to fight your fish without a heavy lead sinker on your line.

300lb. blue mono. #32 rubber bands will act as a release clip from the main line to the rod’s fishing line when a fish strikes. The hole on the trailing edge of the planer is for connecting a quick-release clip for your trolling line.

Trolling:
The size of the planer will determine how deep the rig will go down. The larger the planer is, the deeper it will go. The other variable is how fast you troll the rig. The slower you troll it the deeper it will stay down. As you increase your speed the planer will rise closer to the surface.
All planers have a critical point where if you’re trolling them too fast, they will “trip” and come to the surface. So remember, too high of a trolling speed will make the planer trip and you will have to reel it in and re-set.

You can troll a poor man’s downrigger with mackerel or swimming plugs when fishing with a planer. Use the smaller planers for low-speed trolling with small lures, and the larger ones for faster speeds and larger lures. Downrigger planers use the force of the water to take your trolling lines deeper. Heavy lead downrigger weights only rely on gravity. When trolling and dragging planers, try fishing two rods at staggered distances. Always keep the boat moving forward.
